UNC receives NAP Support from PNC for CEDAR Center

United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania (UNC) received an investment of $50,000 from PNC through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP). This contribution of $50,000 will assist UNC in the creation of a vibrant community center with programming that promotes stronger local workforce development, economic growth, and upward economic mobility for individuals and families. It will also expand UNC’s year-round regional South Side Farmers Market and house Penn State Launchbox, and a cafe open to the public.

CEDAR Center is set to open in May 2025 and will be located in a former bank building at 530 Cedar Avenue in South Scranton, at the heart of the Cedar Iron District. This area, previously designated as a Keystone Communities Elm Street community, has undergone significant transformation following a $15 million investment by UNC, revitalizing the mixed-use corridor along Cedar Avenue. The building, long underutilized and vacant since 2020, represents the culmination of UNC’s 15-year revitalization effort, transforming it into a neighborhood anchor and valuable community asset.
