UNC Awarded $1.24 million for CEDAR Center

We are excited to share that UNC has been awarded a $1.24 million grant through the Multi-Purpose Community Facilities Program, funded by the Coronavirus Capital Projects Fund of the American Rescue Plan Act. This incredible investment will go toward our CEDAR Center project, which will transform the former Peoples Security Bank building at 530 Cedar Avenue into a vibrant community hub.

The CEDAR Center (Community Education Development And Revitalization Center) allow UNC and partners to expand comprehensive services in education, job readiness, workforce development, small business and entrepreneurship, and immigrant integration. It will also provide a venue to expand UNC’s year-round South Side Farmers Market and its impact as a catalyst for new businesses and benefit the existing commercial corridor with increased traffic and access to valuable small business services.

“These grants are vitally important for our community,” said Rep. Kyle Donahue. “It truly will become a center that not only promotes economic growth but maximizes the quality of living in northeastern Pennsylvania and I was proud to be able to help secure this investment.”

Thanks to this generous grant, secured with the support of state Reps. Kyle Donahue, Bridget Kosierowski, and Kyle Mullins, the CEDAR Center will become a cornerstone of South Scranton’s revitalization. This funding ensures that UNC can continue to foster strong, supportive relationships across our region and promote long-term economic growth.

We can’t wait to share the progress as we move forward.
