ESL Program Manager

This position is primarily located in Scranton, PA with some travel required in Lackawanna/Luzerne county. 

Hours: 40 hours per week; two 12:00-8:00pm days and three 9:00-5:00pm days.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the o the Assistant Director of Community Education, the Program Manager is responsible for the development, coordination and support of all ESL curriculum, instruction, and assessment. This includes onboarding and overseeing all volunteer teachers, tutors and their instruction, enrolling incoming students, and developing curriculum.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and oversees all ESL classes and the expansion of the program.
  • Conducts student intakes, orientation, and assessments.
  • Collaborates with case managers and coaches to ensure barriers to education, employment and citizenship are resolved and evaluate goal progression.
  • Onboards, oversees, and provides assistance to all volunteer teachers and tutors.
  • Identifies, develops, and adapts instructional materials to enhance curriculum with a focus on continued education and employment.
  • Oversees and facilitates classes with the ability to travel between Lackawanna and Luzerne counties.
  • Maintains relationship with community partners and participates in community and agency events for ongoing recruitment efforts.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct English language learners.
  • Strong communication (both verbally and in writing), organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to meet the needs of program participants.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of MS Office and other common applications.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Education/Certification:

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in education or related field is required.
  • Preferred: Bilingual; 2 years’ experience working with English language learners.
