PROSPER in Lackawanna County

United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania (UNC) is the primary facilitator of the PROSPER Strengthening Families Program (SFP) at Carbondale Area High School.

PROSPER, or PROmoting School-community-university Partnerships to Enhance Resilience, supports the delivery of evidence-based programs for middle-school students and their families. 

Workshops are on Thursday evenings at the Carbondale Area Elementary School. They include dinner, attendance prizes, and childcare for younger children.

HISTORY OF PROPER IN LACKAWANNA COUNTY

The Carbondale Area School District was an original intervention school as part of the PROSPER research project which began in 2001. Since then, the district has been implementing two evidence-based prevention programs: The Strengthening Families Program for Parents and Youth 10-14 (SFP 10-14) and LifeSkills Training. SFP is offered in the evening from 5:30 – 8:00 PM to 5th and 6th graders and their parents and caregivers. The program is held at the Carbondale Area Elementary School. LifeSkills Training is taught during the school day by trained 8th-grade health teachers.

The Carbondale Area School District is a public school district that serves 1,588 students in grades PK, K-12 residing in the City of Carbondale and Fell Township in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.
